Year 9 EQUALEX Programme 2026

Inspiring Future Careers Through Employer Encounters

As part of our commitment to helping students explore their future pathways, our Year 9 students took part in the Equalex Programme, delivered in collaboration with AHEAD Partnership and Vistry.

The programme was designed to give students the opportunity to learn more about different careers, develop their understanding of the world of work and hear directly from professionals about their own experiences and career journeys.

The programme began with an inspiring careers talk delivered by Stuart La-Fin from Vistry, who spoke to the entire Year 9 cohort about his own career journey, the decisions and experiences that shaped his pathway, and the importance of developing skills for the future. Students also gained insight into the wide range of careers available within Vistry and the construction industry, helping them understand the variety of roles that contribute to major projects.

Following this, over 100 Year 9 students took part in speed networking workshops, giving them the chance to meet professionals from a range of industries and organisations. Students spoke directly with employees from Vistry, as well as representatives from organisations including Wise Owl Films, Bradford College and the Ministry of Justice, among others.

During these sessions, students asked questions about different careers, explored the routes professionals had taken, and developed a better understanding of the skills, qualifications and experiences needed for different roles. Hearing real stories from people working in a variety of sectors helped students recognise that there are many different pathways to successful careers.

The programme concluded with a work insight day at Vistry’s Wakefield office in July, where 20 students were selected to take part in a more in-depth workplace experience. During the day, students explored the company’s working environment, gained an understanding of the different roles within the organisation and took part in practical activities designed to develop their knowledge of the industry.

The Equalex Programme provided students with valuable opportunities to connect with employers, challenge perceptions of different industries and begin thinking about their own future ambitions.
