Year 10 Child Development Work Experience Morning

Putting Learning Into Practice

Our Year 10 GCSE Child Development students had the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience through a bespoke work experience morning delivered in collaboration with Thrive Nursery, Pudsey.

The event allowed students to apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting by planning and delivering activities for toddlers and young children, supported by staff from both Pudsey Grammar School and Thrive Nursery.

In the months leading up to the experience, students had developed their own activity plans as part of their GCSE coursework. They carefully considered the needs and interests of young children, thinking about how activities could support development, encourage engagement and create positive learning experiences.

During the work experience morning, students put their planning into action by leading a range of activities for children from Thrive Nursery under the guidance and supervision of experienced practitioners. This provided students with a valuable insight into the responsibilities involved in working with children and young people, while allowing them to develop confidence in a professional environment.

The experience helped students strengthen a range of transferable skills, including communication, organisation, teamwork, creativity and adaptability. It also allowed them to reflect on the realities of careers within childcare, education and early years settings.

By connecting curriculum learning with a genuine workplace experience, students gained a deeper understanding of the skills, behaviours and qualities required within the sector, while celebrating the hard work they had invested into their GCSE coursework.
